Tips on where to place a gateway in a Cooling Optimize solution
Rules are basic, need to be central to the group of devices communicating with it (when possible) No more than 150 devices per gateway (soft rule, we can go higher but best to be conservative)
Wherever a hard wall such as a concrete wall or a fire wall separate rooms, we need an additional gateway.
No more than 90 feet from any device that has no “hops” available through other devices. Direct connect.
Proximity to available UPS power can override optimal central placement.
Softer rules- Small rooms can really go anywhere. If a room is smaller than 100 feet or so in length, location doesn’t matter much.
Always install a gateway on a roof if there are rooftop units. Signal is consistently problematic going through roofs. Although gateways seem to penetrate about three floors vertically without much trouble. Can’t explain that. But never leverage that, always install a new gateway on each new floor.
Gateways should not be near large bundles of copper, fiber or vent aluminum. Gateway should not be installed in a faraday cage (4 metal walls).
