Struxureware device polling packet size

Hi, I would like to know the exact packet information that is packet size of polling in data using DCE and similarly for ITO. I would also like to know what is the load that DCE will exert on network  bandwidth consumption when installed? Do we have any white paper for the same?

HI Vineet,

There is no white paper for the bandwidth specifics for DCE. Every site and every configuration is different so it is hard to say.  It is dependent on the expected amount of alarms and monitored devices. If you are using surveillance, the bandwidth would be higher because of frames per second, quality ad resolution. For DCE, you should be using a minimum of a 100bt network.

It is estimated that every alarm to be in the neighborhood of 2000 characters. Sensor data has approximately the same size but is transferred often (depending on the setup). The alarm and sensor data are bidirectional communicated with the majority of data going to DCO. We do have a catch-up job normally scheduled on a hourly basis (to catch up on missing alarms from event storms) this job will poll number of active alarms * 2000 chars.

With regards the packet size. During a normal device scan, I believe packets can vary from 5-12KB per SNMP device being scanned. This is STRICTLY an estimate. There are too many factors to take into consideration. If you have a test environment that would allow you to monitor the traffic that your devices create and how your network functions with them, you can get a better estimate on this in your environment.

Regards,

B

Between IT Optimize and DCO:

First time discovery queries between 3K and 5K of data (on average) per discovered asset/server.

Polling queries uses approximately 60 bytes of data per asset per poll. Polling interval can be configured in the external system configuration. The default value is 5 minutes.
