Power Meter and PDU Association

I have a floor mounted PDU that contains a breaker panel that feed all the rack mounted PDUs.  I have already associated a Power Meter (Power Logic PM710) to the floor PDU, to get the total readings from the unit but I am now unable to associate a rack mounted PDU (via DCE) to it in order to do sensor mapping so I can have reading at the rack level.

Is this a known issue?

you need to associate your DCE rack mounted pdu to its corresponding rack pdu in the rack.  You can do this by clicking the rack in the floor layout and dragging the rack pdu from the unassociated devices window onto the rack pdu in the rack view.  You could also drag it onto the rack pdu in the navigation window.

Also for future refernce, you don't have to create the rack pdu first in DCO, you can drag the rack pdu straight from unasssocaited devices right into the rack.

Andrew Trabert I have tried this but the measurements that are returned when associating the device are incorrect. I had spoken to Multi Vendor Support and they suggested the sensor mapping route

sorry that I didn't realize you were trying to do sensor mapping. Here's a link on how to do it https://dcimsupport.apc.com/display/public/UAOp74/Configuring+Branch+Circuit+Monitoring you should be able to right click the pdu in the floor layout and choose sensor mapping as an option. out of curiosity, are these rack pdus daisy chained together so that they share an IP (eg 1 device in DCE has power output for multiple rack pdus?)

Hi @james.halpin

If you have metered rack mount pdu's then you should be able to have the measured data at the rack level by putting(or associating) the rack mount PDU's into the racks. If you get the wrong values from the rack PDU's when doing that it indicates that the Device Definition File (DDF ) is not returning the right values.

What type of rack PDU's are you using? Knowing that,  I'll have a representative from our DDF team reach out to you and work through the issues that you are experiencing.

The sensor mapping solution is only a workaround - and we should fix the underlying issue. I'm sorry that we sent you off in the wrong direction (from Multi Vendor Support) but I'm sure that we will be able to work with and resolve the issue.

Best Regards

Anders

Anders Thorbjørn Jensen The issue is with Geist rack PDUs. There are two different types (and two DDFs), the ones using the Geist IMDPDU DDF work fine (by associating them to the rack PDU in DCO) however the Geist Quantal Legacy PDU DDF is the one I am having issues with. I can provide screen shots and more information to the DDF team.

are any of your geist pdus daisy chained in a master/slave configuration and share an ip? or do they all have their own ip? unless i'm mistaken, the master/slave configuration would require you to use the sensor mapping work around since I don't know how else you would separate multiple pdus that show up as a single device in DCE.

Hi @james.halpin The latest version of the DDF "geist_quantal_legacypdu.xml" is version 8 and I am attaching it to this comment. In case if the attached DDF did not work as well, please send us a WALK file of the device by running the walk utility by following the instructions given in the following link "http://www.apc.com/support/index?page=content&country=ITB〈=EN&locale=en_US&id=FA158391";. Please do attach any MIB files you have for this particular device.

@james halpin After investigation this issue, We came to know that one particular DDF present in your DCE central is causing this issue. I have now rectified the problem and made the necessary change in the DDF file. Can you please delete the DDF with DDF name "Hawk-i2" from your DCE server and add the latest version of it (Version 11). You can find the latest version of the DDF file in the below link. https://schneider-electric.box.com/s/u42nedxo241j5eynf5imtt7qigsm50zq The results were tested in SoapUI and I got values for all the 3 phases.
