Hi All,
With Netbotz 300+ appliances, in DCE the only way to receive an alarm notification if an appliance is unreachable or offline is via an email address configured to a specific user account whom has rights to view that particular appliance in DCE.
We have an issue with a particular site that due to network latency / network problems, frequently loses communication between the DCE server and Netbotz appliance - and this in turn triggers nuisance emails to all DCE account holders registered in the system.
Is there a way to set a time delay on these emails being triggered (in much the same way we can delay lost comms alerts through the Alert Profile for SNMP or Modbus devices)? - The client doesn't want to receive large numbers of spurious emails but does want to know if a device remains offline for an extended period of time.
Perhaps there is another way to achieve this that I am not aware of?
Many Thanks,
David

Hi David,
Sorry but there is no way to set any latency in the alarming of lost comms messages for NetBotz appliances in the 7.x versions of DCE. This has been a request in the past and I will forward this post to product management in the hopes that this may be addressed in a near future revision of 7.x. Just as an FYI, it is my understanding that future releases such as 8.x that support NetBotz will address this issue however that doesn't solve the immediate issue, I know.
Thanks,
Steve

Welcome David... I both forwarded this to product management as well as added it to an already created enhancement request. Steve

Any updates on this? I'm running 7.4.1. I have a number of high latency satellite links I'm dealing with, and while I can control the APC equipment timeout warnings through SNMP settings in DCE I cannot for two NetBotz 570's that were recently put at the other end of those links. It causing those objects in DCE to go red on a regular basis which our operations center staff are finding distracting. It could be solved with timeout and retry option like with SNMP...
Thanks

Hi Stephen,
Sorry but there is still no timeout or retries option available. You can slow the rate of communications down if that will help:
and when the device has an alert, it will contact DCE immediately.
I believe it takes 2 failed communications before the error is reported by DCE.
Keep in mind though that unlike SNMP that gets only the current value when polling, NetBotz sends all data since the last contact so that if it is gathering lots of data, doubling the poll rate will also likely double the data being sent.
I know this was planned for 8.x but that too has been delayed. I will add your comments to the enhancement request.

Hi Stephen, David,
Just an FYI, I believe there is an automatic retries option that is not configurable. I'll verify this when I get some time but I am told there are 3 retries during the NetBotz communications loss. After my testing I'll still add this info into an enhancement request.
