I run monthly reports on all of our sites for Energy Cost in DCO. One of our new sites is coming up with negative usage (kWh) in the report. The only different thing at this site is different PDU's (AP7911B). I have updated the DDF in the DCE for this location. Does anyone have idea as to why this is happening?

Hello Krista.
I assume the device is showing measured power in the DCO desktop client when you mouse over the rack pdu's in those racks?
Can you share a screenshot of the report screen with the negative values and the report parameters you're using?

Can you share a screenshot of the report and when you hover over the rack in the power overlay?

Hello Krista.
The measured data for your rack pdu does in fact show a negative value, this would explain the negative result in the report.

I realize that is why it is showing a negative value but is that normal to have a negative value for measured data? that just doesn't seem right to me but I am new to this application. I know a little bit about this application but am not very knowledgeable regarding power, etc...

I agree.
What type of device is the rack pdu?
The data is from data center expert, right? Does DCE show the negative power value?

This device has power. Has this device ever reported power properly in DCO?
Its possible this is a DDF issue.
Do you have other devices of this model reporting power properly in DCO?

These are the only two devices of this model and they are new. After working with someone from Schneider, I uploaded new DDF to the DCE for this location a few weeks ago.

Ok. Perhaps this is a DDF problem. Let me ask someone here if this DDF is qualified for DCO.

Hi Krista, sorry if I missed something in the above thread. Have you connected directly to the device, e.g. web browse to the device and checked the values? If it's showing the same -'ve values then there's your issue.
If it's not, try interrogating with a different SNMP Manager or even snmpwalk. Just because web server shows a value doesn't mean it's the same via SNMP agent (or telnet/SSH for that matter).
Whilst I suspect chances are pretty slim of the above steps revealing the device is at fault, its worthwhile being 100% sure its not the device itself. I've had different readings via web and SNMP in the past
Cheers
Ed

Hi all,
I worked with Krista to update the apcpower.xml DDF and I am certain that this has something to do with my modifications to the DDF. I needed to add new sections to the DDF specifically for "B" SKU rPDU's such as this one. I believe that I may have incorrectly named some of the sensorId's in the DDF due to some naming inconsistencies already in the DDF. This means it does not match anything in the sensorServiceContext file which handles sending the measured data from DCE to DCO. The attached supplementary sensor context file should resolve the issue. If not I can look into it deeper and see if there is something else causing the negative value.
Krista,
To import to the context file to a DCE server:
- From a web browser, navigate to http://<server_ip>/nbc/status/SensorContexts
- Click 'Browse' and find your supplementary context file, then click 'Upload File'.
Regards,
Nick

Thanks the help Nick.
Krista, lets check DCO tomorrow to see if the power those rack pdu's are reporting look more reasonable. If so, I'd expect the energy cost report to look better.

I just uploaded the new sensor context file this morning and it looks like the rack is showing measured data. i will check on it tomorrow to see how it looks.
