Java Licensing Cost as of April 2019 and APC/SE Products

With Oracle now charging for some of their Java products as of April 2019, I'm getting questions wrt DCE (in my case, VM version) and PCNS, and as to whether the server side Java components for these products are covered by licensing thru APC/SE, or whether we will have to include them in our Java licensing count that we will be paying for.

I've searched in the FAQs on the APC/SE website to see if there is any FAQ on this and there is nothing. Anyone have any info?

Hi Stephen,

I’ve asked about PCNS and will reply when I get anything back or you may see someone else post. For non DCIM questions, you may also want to check forums.apc.com as well because often times the techs that deal with those other products answer those questions more regularly.

As for DCE, I had asked product management about this and there was no definite answer as to whether we would be using the free version or the paid version. What I was told however was that any cost would be rolled into the price of the product and there would be no cost to the customer outside of the product cost.

Hello Stephen.

I'm copying the contents from another post from our engineering team in regards to your question and DCO

The commercial license only affects new Java 8 releases after January 2019, so only products that are released after January 2019 with a new version of Java 8 are affected.

We are aware of this for DCO, and our intentions are to release versions of DCO that do not require a commercial license.

Hi Steve. I heard back on PCNS:

We are switching to OpenJDK so there is no licensing fee. PCNS 4.3 will be out before the change and PCBE 10 has been release to address this.
