ITO: Protocols used for polling?

Hi,

Question about ITO:

Is SSH/SNMP used every time the ITO server is polling the equipment or is some protocols used only when doing the discovery of a new server?

Do we have a schema to visualize the Protocols and sequence of discovery/polling?

Hi Christian,

Depending on the protocols you use for discovery the same protocols are used for polling as well.

EDIT: Except for SSH where only discovery is done using SSH and polling afterwards done with SNMP.

We do not have a visual presentation of the protocols and sequence of discovery/polling. The following however gives a textual description of the functionality as well as highlighting protocols being used and commands used by the protocols.

SSH should be used for discovery of linux and unix servers. SNMP for discovery of blade chassis.

ITO currently only uses SSH for discovery. No polling occurs with the SSH protocol today. SNMP is used to poll linux and unix servers. When SNMP is used to discover an HP, Dell, or IBM blade chassis, SNMP is also used to poll the chassis.
