Is there a way to absolutely confirm if there is a memory leak in DCO 7.4.5 or 7.5?

Hi Ed Tarento
We would very much like to assist in finding any leaks. Do you have a certain set of operations you suspect of leaking memory? We do check for memory leaks in each release - but there might be areas we have overlooked. Also if you have an Application.log file of the client you suspect is running out of memory - it will be easier to detect.
Memory leaks can be detected in two ways:
As a normal users you need to have the client running for a long time - and repeat "the suspected functionality" a number of times and wait to see if the system runs out of memory.
Memory leaks are easier to detect using our development tools, as we can detect leaks much faster and more precise than the normal users. So if you have an area or some steps that you suspect are leaking - then we are happy to assist.
Best Regards
Anders

Thanks Anders
I was reporting this on behalf of our cloud provider. I chased them about how and why they believed DCO server has a mem leak and it turns out, arrived at that conclusion when experiencing improved performance after a server reboot, consistent with other Java/JBoss apps they had experience with. That's it! Is there any obvious response we can provide to this claim?
Cheers
Ed

Hi Ed,
Showing memory leaks can be arbitrarily complex, and the feasibility depends highly on the users experience with this process.
I guess the simplest solution is to wait. If the server dies with a message in the log stating that it ran out of memory, it most likely has a memory leak.
Has this happened?
How complex is the setup? ( would it be feasible for us to set it up in our Lab? )
In general, if you suspect a memory leak, you should file an issue with our support guys with as much detail as possible. At the very least:

Thanks Fredirik
We have a cloud environment where we run a Dev setup (VMs for Windows entry server which runs Java clients, DCE server, SNMP simulation, DCO server etc) and several clones of this environment for different uses/customers.
I can email you access details to the Dev environment if you want. but I suspect you'll find there exactly what you can find on every other DCO server - unless there's something about the way our cloud provide has setup VMware??? They say "no".. I've asked and had confirmed that all our VMs have dedicated resources, CPM, RAM etc.
AFAIK - no server fail and no error msg in logs - I was reporting this on behalf of our cloud provider. I chased them about how and why they believed DCO server has a mem leak and it turns out, arrived at that conclusion when experiencing improved performance after a server reboot, consistent with other Java/JBoss apps they had experience with. That's it!
I have *nix experience and am comforatable running sudo and and as root (and understand the risks having learned the hard way) so If there's no tool or command that I can run to prove/disprove a leak, then let's park this discussion and I'll log a formal case as and when we have an issue. Are you OK with that?
