I have an EGX300 with several ION6200 connected to it. What is the best way to communicate with the 6200s? Can I set them up as PML and talk to them through the EGX300 gateway?I currently have them setup as MODBUS, discovered them in the gateway and pulled them into PME.
If the gateway can't handle PML/ION communications, what gateway can?
Regards,
J

I spoke with a gentlemen from PMU and he said the EGX gateways do not support ION protocol. Here is his response:
The EGX gateways do not support the ION(or PML as it is reference in the 6200).
With the 6200 that shouldn't be a big deal since you get the same values whether it is
configured as an ION device or a MODBUS device. It is a problem if you have other ION devices
on the daisy chain.
A Lantronix UDS1100 gateway will do ION or you could also use a head end device that supports
Ethergate - i.e. the new PM8000.

The EGX300 will handle PML. Make sure the 6200 protocol is set to PML and that the driver used in PME is the PML version and not the MODBUS version. The inverse also works.........Set 6200 to MODBUS, and use the MODBUS version driver in PME.
If the 6200 is setup as PML, then the EGX300 will discover them as a 6200 device. Make sure you have no duplicate addresses or it will mess up the discovery process.

Good to know it does however I can't seem to get it to work.
The EGX300 fails when I try and discover the device. Also, using ION Setup, I can't talk to the meter. I used a gateway and set the IP, does the port need to be 502 or 7801?
Baud rate of 19200.

Check the Parity setting within the EGX300 Serial setup. If I recall correctly, the parity is even for the 6200. Also, make sure all devices are set with the same parameters (baud, parity, protocol). If using PML, then 7801 port. 502 for MODBUS. I usually use RS485 2-wire for the physical interface. Make sure your interface is set correctly. The 6200 address is dependant on the serial number of the unit. I usually change this to start with "1" and go up from there, just for ease of keeping track and it also makes device discovery simpler when you are not searching for 256 addresses. It also simplifies entering the devices into PME Manager.

So the EGX300 will only come up in PME as a "site" when it is set to port 502. It won't connect as port 7801. In the EGX gateway, ION6200 and PowerLogic for device type dont work.

Yes, port 502 when setting up as a site.
Check your settings on both the 6200 meters and the EGX300 for Baud rate, parity, and communication type. Also check the RS485 polarity (seen this many times), and the DIP switch settings on the EGX. I've seen a lot of these set backwards from what one thinks is "on" is actually "off".

The DIP switch settings are per the instructions, first pin off (down), the rest are on (up). I can read the meters from the EGX via MODBUS protocol but not as PWL (ION). I tried all the parity settings and baud rates, all the meters and gateways are hooked up and I can read info from the last meter which tells me the wiring is correct. Currently I have 4 as MODBUS and the rest as PWL. Trying to see if I can get the PWL to work. This is pretty frustrating.

Take a look at your driver set in PME Manager. I have two versions for the 6200. One is PML and the other is MODBUS. When setting up the device in Manager, both versions appear. (At least on one of the sites I manage). From what I am told, back when Power Measurements made the meters, there were two different types, each with its own protocol assigned. This may explain why you can only read the MODBUS and not the ION protocol. Schneider should be able to supply the MODBUS version driver if you don't already have it.

I believe I have both, One says "ION6200" and the other says "ION 6200 (MODBUS)". I can't seem to even get the ION6200 to be discovered in the EGX300 in PML mode. At this point I am just going to put them all in MODBUS and move on. Thank you all for your time trying to help me.

Fogot to mention: Under "Viewable Device Types" on the EGX300, make sure that the 6200 is checked in the box or it will not discover them.
