Disaster recovery for DCE?

Hello everyone.

Does anybody know if DCE can be set up with a disaster recovery node like DCO. Our datacenter has geo-redundancy and we want to keep one DCE working as a disaster recovery node in the redundant datacenter.

Thanks.

Hello Manuel,

No. We do not support a disaster recovery node like the way DCO does. However, there is a section in the below documentation "Redundant Management Program", that may be helpful.

Breda , can you give more details of how this Redundant Management Program works. I couldn't understand the licensing policy for it and how it syncs with original server? Also I would like to know the SKU that has to be included to buy this option.

I am also interested in this. I have two DCE VMs running (one is redundant) however I haven't yet tried backing up the primary unit and then restoring it to the back up unit. Is that the intent with this? I was just configuring them simultaneously. Which is a pain! If that is the intent, what about the different IP addresses and trap forwarding? The servers have different IPs and forward traps to different, redundant, servers for trap consolidation across multiple platforms. I need the tech description, not the sales write-up. Thanks and I look forward to the update! J

I agree with John, more details on the technical implementation as I am also trying to maintain redundancy manually.

Hello, There is officially no technical document for a disaster recovery DCE server and the server itself has no such configuration. However, the only way to achieve redundancy with DCE is to have both servers monitor the same devices. There is no way to sync these servers as they operate independently. If you make a change on the primary server, you will manually have to change this on the backup DCE. The failover DCE must be an exact mirror of the primary central. This to keep device associations between monitored devices and the data center model in case the primary DCE becomes unavailable. However, I understand this might not be ideal. Regards, Breda

Reviving this issue, Is there a way to backup DCE Server 1 and restore that file into DCE Server 2? Is that possible? If so, I can just perform the restore on a regular interval.

I tried it and it didn't seem to work but I could be doing something wrong.

Is there a performance issue on the end device if there are two DCEs requesting information from the same device? I know there are some end devices of mine which are locking up and I was wondering if this might have something to do with it.
