DCO Virtual Memory Full - System Running Slow

We have been experiencing slow performance on our DCO server recently.  After checking the Webmin page, the virtual memory is full utilised.  Is this affecting performance and if so how do I increase it?

The physical server hasn't changedand there seems to be plenty of RAM left.

I have checked the Jave version and it is running the following, don't believe that is affect by the recent issue.

 1:1.8.0.121-0.b13.el7_3

Is there any other troubleshooting I can do?

Hi James,

You can try to do some troubleshooting from the ssh-console.

At first, run the top command, then press the f key (to open Fields Management) and in the list that appears, use the arrow keys and the spacebar to select the SWAP field. After this field is marked with an asterisk, press the q key. A table with processes appears again, but with a SWAP field. Now press Shift+M to sort by size. At the first line, you will see the process that most occupies virtual memory (swap partition) of you DCO-server.

Secondly, you can try to clear the virtual memory. To do this, you must first run the swapoff -a command, and then run the swapon -a command. After that let the DCO-server work for several days, and you follow the state of its virtual memory.

Only after that you can think about further solving your problem.

I was glad to answer your questions.

spezialist - Thanks for the instructions, see screenshot below of the process using the most virtual memory.

I had done the
sudo swapoff -a && sudo swapon -a command as per this thread last week.  The VM went down but then went back up an hour or so later.

Hi James,

I.e., your screenshot confirmed my assumptions 😀.

You said that you already did what I asked for. Should I understand that this did not help you and the problem still remains?

I understand correctly, do you have DCO-8.1?

I was glad to answer your questions.

P.S.: did you perform any updates to your DCO-server?

spezialist After running the command last week it didn't make much difference and is still slow and yes DCO is 8.1.

No updates on the server since upgrading to 8.1 April/May time

Screenshot showing memory useage, I assume that shows what happened when the command was run and as you can see it is climbing back up, almost 80%

Hi James,

I spent a bit of time finding similar problems here on the HELP CENTER EcoStruxure IT, for example, topic . And I concluded that, if after your DCO-server reboot your problem is not solved, then it's very likely that you will have to perform a clean installation of DCO-8.1 and restore on it a previously made backup...

I was glad to answer your questions.

Hi James,

Virtual memory usage doesn't seem to mean anything here, since you have plenty real memory available. Your Java version seems to be older than the affected version, so I'm not expecting memory-leak problem here.

However, I was wondering if it is possible to ask for
1) detailed description of the problem (including screen captures, date/time of the problem).

2) server logs + client "application.log" file (if you see the problem on client(s) side),

3) latest copy of the backup file

  • Please upload the data to our shared location (note: domain is updated to help.se-dmaas.com), thanks

Kind regards

Jef Faridi - Have uploaded the files as requested.  Haven't got any screen caputes as it was a case of clicking and the client having the Not Responding screen (where it whites out).

This was happening last week with it being especially bad on Thursday/Friday.
