Hello All,
I am having a problem in one of my customers. My customer has a DCE version 7.2.5 full backup file . This backup file contains surveaillance records which is critical. We tried to restore the backup file but it didnt work. We also tried to copy the files(DCE has a format for camera files such as Netbotz/Camera/Month/Day) to a different backup file and then restore and it didnt work. I am looking for a solution to retrieve these camera record files.
My customer also mentioned if there is a way to play these files, this is acceptable. Can we use some kind of media player for DCE surveillance recordings?
Thanks in advance

Hi Kaan,
The files can not be played, they are individual jpg files. There is no easy way to figure out what files are for what camera are in what folder. The backup issue is what should first be addressed,
I would suggest the customer contact tech support directly but in either that case or using this forum, more information is needed. We would need to know what errors (if any) are occurring. We'd need to know if the restore is being done to the same system. We would need to know if it is a VM or hardware server. Does a mount work correctly? Can the server to which you are trying to restore the backup even see the file? Is that target system the same version? Is there already data on that target system or has it been restored?
There is simply not enough info for us to provide an adequate line of troubleshooting at this point. Even with the info I noted above, that just gives me a base on where we should head.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steven,
You may find the answers to your questions. I agree that we should focus on the backup problem.
We would need to know what errors (if any) are occurring.
Basicly restore is succesfully done. (ıt seems so) but when we look at the recordings we can not see the recordings after a certain date.
We'd need to know if the restore is being done to the same system.
Yes we are doing the restore to the same system.
We would need to know if it is a VM or hardware server.
It is a VM
Does a mount work correctly?
Mount is achieved and works correctly.
Can the server to which you are trying to restore the backup even see the file?
The backup file can be seen by the server on the restore screen.
Is that target system the same version?
Yes target system is the same version. 7.2.5.
Is there already data on that target system or has it been restored?
Yes there is data on the target system so that we can not try to restore the old backup anymore. Because we do not want to loose the new data.
Thanks,
Kaan Kutlug

Hi Kaan,
So there does not actually seem to be an issue with backup/restore feature.
Also, if I understand correctly, you have a system that had data on it. Did you import the backup to this system or did you do a clean restore and then import the backup? I'm not sure I understand.
As for potential missing data, I can not say this data is in the backup or not. It is possible that the data was purged prior to tthe backup. It is also possible that the backup as an incremental backup...one that just keeps adding data. Keep in mind that this type of backup can not keep adding data indefinitely and it must also purge old data for it to be able to fit on the server.
How old is the data you're looking for? Do any of the cameras show data for that date? Do any sensors show any data for that date or earlier?

Hi Steven,
You may find my answers below.
Did you import the backup to this system or did you do a clean restore and then import the backup? I'm not sure I understand.
We imported the data to the existing system. We didnt do a clean restore. Let me give an example to explain in more detail. The dates are not exact but just to give an idea. My customer realized they didnt have 15 days of data on August 1st. They tried to restore the backup that was taken on July 15th. The restore didnt work. So right now they dont have the camera recording between 15th July and 1st August.
The backup is not incremental. it is a full backup with a size of 90 GB.
How old is the data you're looking for? Do any of the cameras show data for that date? Do any sensors show any data for that date or earlier?
The data we are looking for is a couple of months old. None of the cameras or sensors are showing data for the specified dates.
Thanks again for your help.
Kaan.

Hi Kaan,
If you have an existing system and pull in a backup, it will overwrite the database that is on the current server. The current server will lose the data it had. If your backup does not have any data for any device or any sensor prior to a previous date, the server would have been purged of that data prior to the backup or possibly never had it. If the server had the data and then the backup was imported, that data would then be wiped out and overwritten.

Hi Kaan.
Please be more specific about your issue. For what are the dates for the images that you are looking? What was the date of the backup that you imported?
If you ran a backup a month ago and imported that into your system today, you will have overwritten everything on your local system. This means that anything that was on the system from a month ago to today is gone....deleted.
