DCE Firmware Updates

Hello,

We have several firmware updates in DCE. Are these updates only for NMC's in the devices? The reason we ask is that we have read elsewhere that UPS's need to be powered off for firmware updates.

Here are the devices we have updates for in DCE.

Is it safe to apply these updates while a load is present on the UPS's and PDU's? Thanks in advance.

You're correct, a firmware upgrade will only reboot the NMC for most devices. It's the exact same as if you used the downloadable firmware executable. It does the same thing behind the scenes (ftp/scp).

I mentioned it will not reboot "most devices". The potential exceptions are cooling devices. Updating the firmware on cooling devices may cause the unit to reboot which is actually why cooling units are not upgradable through DCE. You have to manually run the upgrade and it warns you if the device may reboot.

In other words, in short, in your case (according to your screenshot), only NMC firmware will be updated with subsequent reboots of NMCs (not devices). The devices themselves (rPDU's and UPS's for example) will not be rebooted or turned off. Correspondingly, you do not need to plan downtime for the above mentioned NMC firmware update of your devices.
