I have a AP9340 Environmental monitor and it is setup to send traps out for every alert. My question is, how come DCE doesn't show the "WarmStart" alarm in the History of alarms for that environmental monitor? I only know it happens because there was a comms loss alert. I went into the device logs and saw that it warmstarted.
How come DCE doesn't log all of the traps coming out of a device? I am sure there are many other instances of this out there.
Regards,
J

Hi John,
DCE only shows events as defined by the essential alert DDF downloaded from the device itself. Warmstart is not in that DDF as I believe it is a lower level event(an eventual alert to this as "communication loss" shall be reported by DCE though). Since the DDF does not tell DCE to log it, it will also not report it via an e-mail. This has nothing to do with any OID for warmstart. when the device has any alert, it does send a trap to DCE. DCE does not alert on this trap. Instead, DCE polls the device for it's alert status. It looks at the information and verifies it should be reporting as per the DDF it downloaded.
However, if it essential for you to be alerted of this "warmstart" event in particular, you can configure this alert at the device level itself, disabling all other event notifications as those will be taken care by DCE. However, it is very important to look for the frequency of this event occurring so that the real issue can be fixed. Thanks & have a great day!!!
