We currently have 50 devices all using the AP9630 and they are randomly generating Communication lost errors even though they are still pingable during that time. We are on v6.5.6 and using SNMPv1
I have not been able to find a pattern that would help me find the cause. IPv6 is enabled still which we are not using in our network currently. Could that cause issues?

Hello Jim Kuder,
Loss communication is all about SNMP or Modbus. A device that goes into lost communication alarming is because DCE is unable to access device data via one of those protocols. Being that it this problem is intermittent, my first suggestion would be to increase effected devices timeouts and reties. This can be done under the SNMP Device Communication Settings either globally or to specific devices. By increasing both timeouts and retries, we are effectively giving DCE and monitor device additional attempts and time to respond to device data request.

Are there recommended levels for increasing the timeouts and retries?

I would start with 5 retries and 5 second timeout and you can always adjust from there. There is no exact science behind adjusting for lost communication. Let me know how things go.
Thank You
