I have customer that is monitoring a Eaton Power Xpert Meter via modbus TCP on the public lan. This device also has a web interface that runs a java applet.
For some reason, if I try to launch to the device using the internal DCE browser, the client will close unexpectedly, but nothing abnormal shows up in the client logs. If I uncheck the "use internal browser" and use IE, it works fine and the client stays up.
I know we don't support java applets on the private lan per KB FA239966, but this is the public lan, is this issue related at all or possibly something new? Has anyone else seen this?
I have attached my client log in the .isxc folder if that helps

Hi Drew,
I'm assuming you're computer is on the public LAN so we're not still using DCE as a router correct? No issues with other devices? What OS is being used?
I'm thinking it's likely the fact that we're using an older browser plugin...especially since using an external browser does not have the same issue. Just in case it's something to do with the system you're on though, have you tried launching DCE client and subsequent device UI on another computer?
I see tons of messages like this and other similar:
One or more bundles are not resolved because the following root constraints are not resolved
This appears to be an eclipse error. I'm not seeing this on a regular basis from other customers so it would appear to be something about that specific config...device, install, etc.
Since you know it works on the external browser, you at least have a workaround. We are also going to be releasing 7.4 soon so if there is a code issue / conflict with that device, it's not going to be able to be specifically addressed in time for the 7.4 release.

Hey Steve,
Yup my computer is on the public lan as well as the customers, it happens with both of our clients using the internal browser. Correct, no issues with any other devices (they're all apc though).
Just to isolate it to this specific issue, are any of those messages on or after yesterday 6/22? That was when we first encountered it.
I agree that this could be a customer configuration issue since this device is on a different network with strict firewall rules that only allow 80/443 to this device. Just wanted to bring it up to see if there was anything we could do or if was a known issue.

Hey Drew, No, Everything I saw was from an earlier date. It's probably an incompatibility with the plugin and not the network as an external browser works. Steve

As you guys said, there is nothing in the log file that is of any use for this issue. When you use the internal browser, we're using a browser supplied by the UI framework that we use which under the hood should be using the IE engine of the Windows machine you're running the DCE client on. There is nothing in the upcoming 7.4 release that would lead me to believe this will be solved. Possibly a different version of IE on the Windows machine you're using would fix the issue, but I have my doubts. Unfortunately with no error logs to go off of it's tough to pinpoint where it's blowing up. -Scott
