Hi Support Team,
I am facing a problem when configuring power supply for my 02 UPS. There doesn't seem to be an option in the properties section
Then when configuring PUE. The power supply is taken from the power meters of the 2 EMSB input cabinets. IT load I got from UPS connected with load bank to show capacity (No IT equipment yet). but the calculated value of PUE is not displayed
I tried creating a value and assigning it. As a result, the PUE calculation is displayed. So am I doing something wrong?

Hi SonNG,
In ITA currently supported option for power configuration is:
UPS -> PDU -> rack pdu -> rack-mounted assets
or
PDU -> rack pdu -> rack-mounted assets
So basically, we cannot model power path upstream to UPS. You might want to use the UPS's properties setting just to make a note that it is connected to some sort of power supply/generator.
And concerning the PUE calculations, I guess (only guessing) there might be delay in retrieving/reporting sensor data and/or PUE calculation updates. The displayed PUE doesn't appear to have the expected value (it is way to high, probably displaying the result of the previously entered data). In general, if there should be problem getting the sensor data (from DCE) and/or having unexpected data, then the PUE calculation(s) may fail.
Kind regards,
Jef

Hi Jef,
As seen, we have 2 EMSB total electrical cabinet that will independently power 2 UPSs and other infrastructure devices such as: PAC,...
The problem here is that if the power supply for 2 UPSs is not configured, the power capacity will be miscalculated. Specifically, the power capacity will be the total of 2 EMSB cabinets and 2 UPS.

Hi SonNG,
Thanks for the comment, I understand what you mean. Unfortunately modeling the electrical cabinets and/or other power generators is currently un-supported. Perhaps limitations (power limitations) can be set on the UPS level/units, since the power capacity calculations (in ITA) will start from the UPS.
Kind regards,
Jef

Hi Jef,
So that means the power capacity is only calculated on the UPS.
In addition, other infrastructure equipment that consumes electricity will not be included in the power capacity.

Hi SonNG,
Not only calculated on the UPS itself, but also downstream from the UPS, eg. it will be calculated on the connected PDU and rack pdus.
as a test try to change the power capacity on a UPS (properties > Power > Capacity) and then see the power capacity changes in power tool-tip (in Power overlay, hover over a UPS, PDU, rack, etc.)
Kind regards,
Jef

Hi Jef,
As I understand it the power capacity will be calculated on the UPS and from the connections to the UPS eg PDU and Rack PDU.
In addition, other infrastructure devices such as PAC, if not connected to power from the UPS, will not be able to calculate the power capacity.

Hi SonNG,
That's correct, equipment that are not included in a power path will not be involved in power capacity calculations.
Kind regards,
Jef

Hi @Jef
I wish to find out if this has been changed in ITA v 9.3.4. I want to configure a Power Path Starting from the Distribution Board Level that feeds the UPS and also feeds Cooling Units in the DC. Following your conversation I understand Power Paths can only be dsigned starting from the UPS and everything else that is not on UPS Power cannot be included when calculating PUE?
Regards.

You can create power path above the UPS and for other infrastructure like cooling units in ITA. However you cannot connect the UPS to anything upstream of it. ITA Capacity still only sees the UPS as the start of the power path and bases a majority of it's power capacity calculations of UPS capacity/loading.
Calculating PUE works differently, if you use the native ITA PUE/DCiE dashboard as mentioned in this post, you can add either static values or measured values from DCE for facilties load and IT load. We also have another ITA module, Energy Efficiency which you can use to calculate PUE/DCiE for multiple sites with much more complex PUE calculations using java script and outside data sources.
