Depends on what you want to do with the data once you've read it really.
There are tools that get installed with Geo SCADA such as scxcmd that has a hisdump parameter. Point it to the relevant .hrd file and you get the data as CSV. You'll need to do it for each file one at a time but it is easily scripted, and might give you the data in the required format.
Given its a backup you could always just load it on a test/development system and see? Even without a valid licence you can start it up, just not create any more points and it'll shut down every 2 hours.
