Included ViewX license

As I understand there is an included ViewX license for local server use with a server license. We have RDS installed for RDP session based access to the server Geo SCADA is installed on.

We have bought 4 ViewX licenses but we seem to be hitting maximum 4 ViewX sessions before no-one can logon. Licensing shows 4 ViewX clients on the dongle.

Do you need to be connected to a console session to use this included license or am I missing something?

I wondering if there is maybe some confusion here. With a ClearSCADA licence there are two parts.

1. Attributes loaded by DBServer for the server, this includes the point count, floating ViewX, WebX, OPC, and you can see the status in Server Config.

2. Attributes loaded by DBClient via ClearSCADA Licence Server (which is what ViewX uses when you tick the client licence box) and that is configurable in Configure Connections, and is the bit that is configured when you buy client-side ViewX licences.

On a ClearSCADA server, the licenses as part 1 above are configuration as you buy, and part two is just set to 255 ViewX licences which is the bit that "always allows ViewX on the server to connect to itself"

There are however two issues:

1. You mention dongle so that should automatically be processed, however if it were a file licence it is very easy to miss that config so whilst you set up the server characteristics these client ones are pointing to an invalid file. You can set it in Configure Connections -> Licenses. The licence file itself if you open in text editor has them all mixed together, each part of the licensing process picks out what it needs

2. If the ClearSCADA Licence Server service is stopped, client-side licences do not exist (either dongle or file). In recent versions of ClearSCADA they have improved the security of this service by setting it to run under a virtual service account but depending on your system it may not be set to allow virtual service accounts to log in as a service, and so the service cannot start. If so fix up the local policy and start it, and it may jump into life.

There is a ViewX license associated with each ClearSCADA / GeoSCADA Expert server license, which allows for administration of the installation.

You haven't really detailed your architecture to make it obvious as to how many servers you have, which have the ViewX application installed, which have ClearSCADA, and which licenses (and modes of licenses) are on each.

You can get licences issued as either Node Locked or Floating Licences, and either Dongle Based or Softkey based.

You've mentioned a dongle.  So does this dongle ONLY have 4 Floating ViewX licenses?

If so, where does the ClearSCADA/GeoSCADA Expert server reside?

I've never needed to specifically connect to a console session to use the included license.

But likewise none of the ClearSCADA servers that I've used this license on have been configured with RDS, and there are a number of configuration options with RDS that may dramatically change how this 'appears' to ClearSCADA/GeoSCADA Expert.

One ClearSCADA server instance installed on one server. One dongle. Users connect via RDP to this server to administer/operate.

Dongle shows 25k points, 4 ViewX licenses. Connection is set to use server license, therefore floating licenses.

I've changed it to client license and now it will open without increasing the count of ViewX licenses used.

Perhaps you could mark Adam's answer as the solution?
