ClearSCADA 2017R2 Configuration Auditing duration?

I am assisting a client configure the auditing feature.  (Configuration Changes Auditing)

Could someone kindly explain what Keep Online for, Archive after and Future messages mean as a whole.

The Defaults are set to 4, 0 and 4 respectively.  Does it mean audit log entries are kept for 4 weeks in the database, then after 4 weeks written to file and kept on the file system for 4 weeks?

Also what is the file path (name) of the audit log, when written to the file system?

Sorry, its just not very clear to me.

@Anonymous user What did the help say about these fields?

You should go to the server and

http://localhost/Help/#ServerAdministrationGuide/ConfigurationChangesAuditing.htm

That should look like the page you're talking about.

Then there are links at the bottom of the page that would take you here:

http://localhost/Help/#ServerAdministrationGuide/SpecifytheDurationtoRetainHistoricDataOnline.htm

Specify the Duration to Retain Historic Data Online

The Keep online for field in the ClearSCADA Server Configuration Tool's Historic settings allows you to specify the duration that Alarm Summary, Configuration Changes Auditing, Event Journal or Historic Data., is retained online. When this period of time expires, the historic data is deleted from the disk to allow space for the latest messages or data.

http://localhost/Help/#ServerAdministrationGuide/DefinetheArchiveTimeforData.htm

Alarm Summary, Configuration Changes Auditing, Event Journal or Historic Data is stored online for a specified duration (see Specify the Duration to Retain Historic Data Online), then the data is deleted. You can define a period of time after, which data that is stored online can be archived. When historic data is marked as eligible for archiving, it can be archived for example to CD, DVD and so on, (it has to be archived before the duration of the online data expires).

During the period that data is stored online, the data can be altered (by having new values reported for the time period) unless it is marked as eligible for archiving. When historic data is marked as eligible for archiving, it can no longer be altered on the disk—the new records for that period / time cannot be written to; it can only be read.

and here

http://localhost/Help/#ServerAdministrationGuide/DefinetheFutureDataTimeforHistoricData.htm

Specify the Future Data Time for Historic Data

You can use the ClearSCADA Server Configuration Tool to define the lifetime setting for future data. The future data lifetime setting defines the maximum amount of time in the future that is permitted for future data—any data that has a time stamp that is further in the future than the defined time is not stored historically. For example, if the current date is October 1st 2014 and the future data life is set to 1 week, any data that has a time stamp between October 2nd and October 7th will be stored historically. A message that has a time stamp beyond October 7th will be lost as the date of the future data is further in the future than the defined future data life.

@Anonymous user

I note I didn't respond to your last question:

Also what is the file path (name) of the audit log, when written to the file system?

That's not really how this works.  It stores the records as a set of files, none of which are externally readable.

You would use the Query Processor internal to ClearSCADA / Geo SCADA Expert to query the Configuration Change 'table' which would provide the Configuration Change results you want.

There is further information in the help, and within the schema related to this.

If these have answered your questions appropriate, please mark the earlier response as 'the solution' to make it easier for others to find.
