3rd party SNMP data

Hi is it possible to connect a 3rd party radio to display data on GeoSCADA via SNMP? It is current used with Schneider scanning radios for a management system.

We have previously used SNMP mibs to send data to a 3rd party management system but never tried to take SNMP data to be displayed on GeoSCADA itself.

Hi,

@BevanWeiss is correct, nothing dynamic. I suppose you can create some Logic to manipulate config, but it seems unnecessarily complicated. Geo SCADA is not an NMS, it's normally used to monitor a static network config which you know about when it's set up.

Yes, the GeoSCADA Expert SNMP driver supports 3rd party devices.  It's agnostic to the vendor.
You will just need to know the OIDs for the SNMP points you want to retrieve.

Hello, @BevanWeiss. Thanks. I can imagine that I can one-by-one add MANY OIDs for the 3rd party device and its own MIB... Is there any way to configure the "items/oids" automatically via importing the MIB file?

Also ... once created/generated such list of OIDs to be read, is there a way to store them as a "template" so that e.g. all devices within network XY can be queried by this list of OIDs? (I configure one template and it's used for all 3rd party devices within some group).

Thanks a lot.

I would recommend not having hundreds of OID points scanned.  Just get 'important' ones.

I'm not sure that something like GeoSCADA is the right place to be polling for port status on 48 port switches, or similar.  That's definitely the realm of things like Solarwinds.

You can use the Bulk Edit Tool (I believe) to create SNMP Points.

Most longer term ClearSCADA/GeoSCADA integrators tend to use custom designed tools based on the Automation Interface (or the .NET API for newer developments).  I tend to use such custom tools rather than the Bulk Edit tool, hence I'm not 100% sure what functionality the Bulk Edit tool currently has.

You would create a Template containing the points, and then create instances of this Template.

If the template won't contain the SNMP Device itself (this may exist in a 'parent' template / group) then you probably want to use a Template Parameter to allow for the SNMP Device to be 'pushed down' to the various SNMP Points based on the Parameter Value assigned against the Template Instance.

Hi, thanks a lot.

I know Zabbix NMS and we use it a lot. SNMP and templates are OK there. But one customer has this GeoScada and wants to query values from the our devices via SNMP and I was thinking about the easiest way. One way is to really choose the most important ones and do them manually... Sure. I can completely understand that querying hundreds of values via GeoScada is not optimal and they should go for Solarwinds-Zabbix and similar.

One last question - for multiple values via SNMP we use "dynamic indexes" which must be discovered first. Is there any option for such behaviour? Because e.g. we can have one, or two, or 5 network interfaces. The OIDs are not fixed, but are dynamically created/deleted/changed over time. E.g. - https://www.zabbix.com/documentation/current/en/manual/config/items/itemtypes/snmp/dynamicindex.

As far as I’m aware the full OID path for each point must be stored in the Config stream. So nothing dynamic available.

@sbeadle could possibly confirm this.

I’m not aware of any proposed (or easy) development to add dynamic OID config / discovery.

Cheers, can @sbeadle let us know if anything dynamic is possible in GeoSCADA, as explained above? Thanks.
