Cause
Niagara R2 was developed before SSL/TLS became a standard requirement for secure communication. The platform does not include native SSL support, and its architecture cannot accommodate SSL without significant redesign.
Resolution
SSL is not supported in the Niagara R2 environment.
To meet security requirements, consider the following alternatives:
- Use a VPN tunnel to secure communication between Niagara R2 and external systems.
- Implement network-level security measures such as firewalls and IP filtering.
- Plan for migration to a newer platform (e.g., Niagara AX or N4) that supports modern encryption standards.
