Installing MSDE or upgrading I/NET on a PC that has SP4 (Service Pack 4) and an editor comes up displaying the ports that will be disabled when the program is installed, then goes away.
Environment

- MSSQL Server
Cause
Ports in the MSSQL Server need to be enabled.
Resolution
- Open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\SVRNTCN.exe.
- Double click on this file and enable the following files, Named Pipes and TCP/IP.
- Apply the changes and then close the editor SQL Server Network Utility.
