I/A Series R2 Enterprise Server or WorkPlace Pro Fails to Start: Missing License File Error

Issue

When launching I/A Series R2 WorkPlace Pro or Enterprise Server, the following error appears:
“This product requires a valid license. Missing license file: /nre/lib/license.properties.”

Environment

I/A Series R2 (all versions), Enterprise Server, WorkPlace Pro

Cause

Windows is configured to hide file extensions for known file types. As a result, the license file is incorrectly named license.properties.properties instead of license.properties.

Resolution

1. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the directory containing the license file (typically \niagara\r2.301.xxx\nre\lib).
2. If using Windows 7:
   • Select Organize → Layout → Menu Bar to enable the classic menu bar.
3. Go to Tools → Folder Options → View tab.
4. Locate and uncheck the option Hide extensions for known file types.
5. Click OK to apply changes.
6. Rename the file from license.properties.properties to license.properties.
7. Save the changes and restart the application.
