Issue

The I/A Series R2 Enterprise Server station fails to start and displays the error:

fatal boot - file is used by another process station VM

I/A Series R2 Enterprise Server

Cause

• Multiple stations may be running on the server simultaneously (e.g., autostart enabled).
• The station may be open offline while attempting to start.
• Write protection settings on the PC prevent the Enterprise Server from creating or writing necessary files (e.g., config.db.lock, properties files).

Resolution

1. Verify Station Instances

   • Ensure only one station is running on the server. Disable autostart for other stations if necessary.

2. Close Offline Station

   • Confirm the station is not open offline when attempting to start.

3. Check File Permissions

   • Navigate to the Niagara directory and verify that all files and subdirectories are not set to read-only or blocked for writing.
   • Remove write protection and ensure the Enterprise Server software has full access.
