Error When Saving Station Information in Niagara Application Tunneling on Windows 7

Issue

When saving station information in the Niagara Application Tunneling dialog window, the following error occurs:
“Windows Shell Common DLL has stopped working.”
This prevents proper configuration of the tunnel client.

Environment

• I/A Series R2 LON Tunnel Client
• I/A Series R2 Serial Tunnel Client

Cause

The issue is due to compatibility between the I/A Series R2 Tunnel Client DLL files and Windows 7 operating systems.

Resolution

1. Configure the Niagara Application Tunneling dialog box with the required station information:
   • For Serial Tunnel: Select a valid COM port and enter host address, username, and password.
   • For LON Tunnel: Select a valid LON port and enter host address, username, and password.
2. Ensure the tunnel client is set to Silent Mode.
3. Click OK to save the data.
4. When the dialog box appears indicating Windows is checking for a solution, select Cancel before the timeout that prompts to “Close Program.”

   

   • This action saves the station information successfully.

Note: This is a workaround for Windows 7 compatibility issues.
