DMS MSC-NC Connects but Fails to Access Networked MicroSmart Controllers

Issue

Connection to a DMS MicroPlex MSC-NC is successful; however, attempts to access a networked MicroSmart controller fail.

• MicroSmart Controller

Cause

The Flash ROM in the MSC-NC requires reloading. Corrupted or incomplete flash memory can prevent proper communication with networked MicroSmart controllers.

Resolution

Reload the Flash ROM in the MSC-NC:

1. Power down the MSC-NC.
2. Install jumper J1 (located near the processor).
3. Power up the MSC-NC.
4. Connect using DCT.
5. Remove J1 jumper.
6. Perform Alt-L in DCT to start Flash ROM installation.

Additional Benefits:

• Resets backdoor password issues.
• Removes “ghost” controllers.
• Corrects non-standard service alarm codes (e.g., 44+service alarm44144144/144).
