Issue
Which files can be safely backed up using automatic or manual methods?
Product Line
Satchwell BAS & SigmaEnvironment
Sigma (All versions)
Cause
Backing up a live Sigma system is not recommended, as copying files that are currently open may compromise data integrity.
Resolution
To ensure a reliable backup process, follow these guidelines:
-
Files Safe to Back Up While Sigma Is Running
The following directories contain archive data and can be backed up safely without shutting down the system:-
C:\\Sigma\\Data\\ArchivedAlarms -
C:\\Sigma\\Data\\ArchivedLogs -
C:\\Sigma\\Data\\ArchivedTransactions
⚠️ Note: These files should only be removed for space-saving purposes. Sigma can be configured to access and view these archived files.
-
-
Files Requiring System Shutdown Before Backup
For all other Sigma files, it is strongly recommended to shut down both the Sigma server and all clients before initiating a backup. This ensures that no files are open or in use during the process. -
Restoring Data
Data restoration must only be performed after the Sigma system has been completely shut down.
Additional Notes
- This guidance applies to both automatic and manual backup procedures.
- Always verify that the Sigma system is offline before handling non-archived files.
