ViewX not running on server after upgrade from GeoSCADA 2020 to GeoSCADA 2022

Upgraded GeoSCADA today and all appeared to go well. However, when I start ViewX I get the initial splash screen the it shuts down. Upgraded client and ViewX on client works fine. I have attached the ViewX log file.

I tried all ways mentioned but did not resolve the issue at the time. I ran up a new VM onto the server and ran the install again. Was only a small plant so the impact was not too significant at the time.

Did you ever find a solution to your problem? We have a similar issue that ViewX won't fully load but on 2021. We aren't sure when it started so we don't know if it started when we upgraded from 2020 to 2021 or perhaps after we applied the Dec 2023 updates of 2021 or maybe a MS Update. Interested to know what you found out.

There was a version somewhere near there that had an issue with ViewX upgrades related to CEFSharp files not getting cleaned up properly.  I think the CEFSharp files moved from the base location into a nested folder for \Modules\, but there was one release that didn't clean up the old files.

Check and see if there are any files that start with CEFSharp in the base C:\Program Files (x86)\Schneider Electric\ClearSCADA\ folder.  Validate there are CEFSharp files in the \Modules\ folder.  If there are are CEFSharp in the Modules folder AND also in the base folder, close ViewX, and then delete them from the base folder.

Other option is to fully uninstall/reinstall, but that's a little more aggressive.

What Trent wrote!

Also, after removing any files you can do a Repair install.

Also - are you sure you:

a) Didn't have Virtual ViewX Server installed, or

b) Did have Virtual ViewX Server installed and you upgraded it too.

If you did have Virtual ViewX Server installed and you did not upgrade it, you can have a similar problem.

I don't believe our version 2021 Dec 2023 Update has Virtual ViewX as an option. I just ran the ISO and tried to modify to see if it was even available. We don't use it, plus this happened on all 3 servers (Main Standby and Perm Standby) and no clients. I was thinking it must have been a MS Update or something or maybe even Symantec Endpoint Protection. I did try what Trent suggested and even did a repair. I wasn't sure I wanted to go as far as a complete remove and reinstall. We have plans to upgrade our servers to Server 2022 and GeoSCADA 2023. We typically don't run it on the server, but every now and then when we go to delete a tag we have to be Super User and you can only [apparently] log in as SU on Main. We wanted to get rid of Super User but are a tad worried that if we do then when we run across a tag that requires SU to remove that we'd be stuck. Perhaps when we install 2023 we will see about eliminating it.

Thank you for that answer. Unfortunately it was not the case for us.

I have encountered this problem many times when I upgraded to a new version of the product.
This is resolved by uninstalling ViewX and reinstalling it or Repair.

Yeah the re-install may be our next option. We tried the repair already. Since it's all three of our servers we were hoping to not have to uninstall and re-install. We need to upgrade anyway so I guess this is as good a time as any I guess.

Thanks for your comments - there may have been some other software/install interfering, perhaps one using a shared component? If this repeats the support team could help - perhaps by examining the installed files in more detail. (Though in the heat of an upgrade I understand it's commercially expedient to nuke it and reinstall to meet timescales!)
