I setup my Back-UPS NS1250LCD several days ago and placed it into service in a well-ventilated space. Everything functions correctly, although my load is only 2% of capacity. Is it normal for the exterior to feel warm when bulk charge/discharge is not ocurring? The room temperature is ~75F and I measured the surface temperature of the top of unit (toward the rear) at 102F with a laboratory thermometer. Is this normal for this unit?

Thanks for the info. My unit is constantly quite warm, as indicated by the measurements, but it is never painful to touch. Sounds like this is normal.

The exterior casing of the unit can get warm, even more so during/immediately after a charging cycle, running at high load, or exposed to high temp. It sounds like your only possibility might be the fact that it's doing a quick charge cycle to keep the battery at full charge. In time you will probably notice it fluctuate. If it just feels "warm" in comparison to your hand, that's not abnormal. If it ever becomes painful to touch, however, that is abnormal and you should call technical support for a replacement. No one piece of the unit should ever be that hot.
