eventviewer.exe

Hello,

In PowerChute PE 2.0 there was an eventviewer.exe app that allows you to view a history of power events logged by the UPS. I recently upgraded to PowerChute PE 3.0.2 and I no longer find this app.

Is it called something else or did they leave out that small app all togehter?

The eventlog.dat file is still there so I assume the UPS events are still getting logged to that file but what can we use to view that log?

Hopefully someone has a solution.

Thanks

SEVEN years went by ... no more solution... NOTHING FROM APC:

I discovered that:
HWinfo64 (it's a monitor) is reading real time Data From UPS and it can show them
HW64 is able to pass all that mass of info to MSIAfterburner

Even if not specific to UPS (it's a manager/monitor intended for GPU) it's able to track and live graph what's happening inside the UPS!!

Pics with an arrow to show you ... attached

___________ but NOTHING to analyze the eventlog.dat  !!
Hmmmm ... What happened yesterday .... hmmm....

funny, i just got the same question not an hour ago via email..

the eventviewer.exe is no longer needed in earlier revisions because you should be able to view the .dat file without it now or just view the events via the software.

As I'm sure you are aware the Personal Edition GUI software only provides a summary of power events... it gives a detailed date/time for the last event only... the rest are just accumulated over a selectable Week, 4 Weeks, 12 Weeks, 24 Weeks with no event date/time details at all... and only gives me the accumulated events for a max of 24 weeks.

The eventviewer.exe in 2.0 showed me the detailed log with each event on its own line with a date/time stamp... and this log was all the way back to when I installed the UPS 2 years ago.

The eventlog.dat file is not viewable without the eventviewer.exe utility.

Usually newer versions are only suppose to fix issues and/or add features... not take away a very useful feature/function that was provided in an earlier version. NOT COOL!!!

If there is no other alternative I guess I will be uninstalling 3.0.2 and going back to 2.0.

It does looks like in 3.0.2 the events are now logged directly to the Windows (Application) event log. I could of swore I looked there initially just in case but didn't find anything at first glance... after "causing" a couple of power events they do appear in the Windows event log... at least in Win XP they do.

To view them use Windows Event Viewer and select the Application catagory... Windows logs a LOT of stuff so the easiest way to spot them is to sort the events by Source and look for "APC Data Service".

i was under the impression that eventlog.dat in 3.0.2 was readable and didnt require the event view.

i double checked on this and i am told that anything you would see in that eventviewer.exe file should now be visible in the windows event viewer within administrative tools in the control panel.

Hi! So, I am new to this thread. I do remember the old event viewer, and I used it to generate a log of the power fluctuations associated with Hurricane Isabel in 2003. Now, living in the same place in 2012, but with new hardware and software, we are hunkered down for Hurricane Sandy. Supposedly the wind is still building. We have had repeated blackouts of a few seconds, at 2012 October 29, 7:22 pm EDT.

I am able to get the information through the Windows Event Viewer, and I created a special report there for just the APC events. That is interesting, but so complicated when there are numerous events.

This link offers immediate decoding of the file eventlog.dat : [http://seltron.net/apc/powerchute.php]

This link gives some interpretation so that you could write your own little program: [http://johnwbartlett.com/PowerChute.html]

The info is encoded as 20 bytes per event.

I for one would still like to see a new version of the {color:#ff6600}*eventviewer.exe*{color} program .

I'll second that!! Would it have really killed APC to keep the eventviewer.exe program? REALLY?

Hi all,

I have created a new standalone tool for parsing and viewing the events.

It also allows you to filter, sort and extract to Excel.

You can download it using the link below.

http://www.pcassistsoftware.co.uk/ccount/click.php?id=16

Tested with eventlog.dat from PowerChute Personal Edition v3.1.0

Hope you find it useful.

Regards

Hi Alain

Should simply be a case of clicking Select File and choosing the eventlog.dat file and it will then work, but I have only tested with version I have (PowerChute Personal Edition 3.1.0) running on UK version of Windows 10/11 so issue could be language / location or version of PowerChute related.  If you could possibly let me have a copy of your eventlog.dat file then I will test and fix the issue.
