I have a XS 1300 . The machine keeps on chirping. it then stops. When I pressed on the on bottom to display the panel, it initially shows the battery fully charge but in 3 seconds it shows it not charged at all and the chirping begins again. I am doing this with no load on the UPS.
Trying to figure out if I need a new battery or a new unit.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
Carlos.

I decided since the UPS is over 13 years old that I will just upgrade to a new UPS. Decided on the 1500 VA Sine Way UPS.
Thanks to everyone that responded.

The internal battery is rated for 3-5 years of service life. That is based on ideal conditions which is impacted by usage, temperature, and environmental variables.
Install and connect APC Power Chute Personal Edition. Report back what the system indicates are the active faults and historical errors.
Pay attention to the battery installation date, it’s current battery health, and what happens when you remove AC Mains from the outlet.
If the battery is bad or going bad it will either immediately shut down when a load is attached or provide a very short amount of operational runtime.
Obviously, the operational runtime is reflective of the battery health and attached load. So you need to compare the actual runtime with the APC Runtime Calculator. If the system turns off immediately or in a few minutes with a moderate load - Replace the battery.
If however the runtime is stated as 60 minutes per APC for say 150 watts and you only see 5-10 minutes - Replace the battery. If the runtime is 30-45 minutes you can schedule a replacement in the future! 👍
Report back what Power Chute Personal Edition (PCPE) indicates are the active faults / errors.
NOTE: You can manually initiate a Self Test and Battery Calibration. Both tests will provide you much insight and confirm a weak / dead battery. Both tests must be done only when the battery is 100% charged.
If the battery is weak or dead a battery calibration will fail immediately or will cause the battery to expire very quickly! ☝️ Do not have your computer attached while the battery calibration is under way. Connect something none critical that presents at least 30% load to the UPS before initiating a battery calibration process.
Report back what you see and observe with the error logs from PCPE.

I installed powerchute as instructed and on the UPS status it says:
Device Status - on line, no batteries attached
UPS load 12%
Runtime remaining - 0 minutes.
This is the first time using this so not sure on how to proceed. Any help would be appreciated.
On the data log it is showing battery charge of 100% and ups load 9%.
I do not see an error log but I included the event log and the pcss log.
Thanks.
Carlos.

thanks for the information. I am not sure I know what I am looking at. Attached are the pcss log and the event log. I do not see any error logs. The data log is showing battery 100%. When I go to battery status it says no battery attached and zero run time. When I run a set test it says Refused.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.

If the battery is more than three years old it probably needs to be replaced. You can take it out and measure the battery voltage and it should be 24-27 VDC.
This specific model UPS also has a known problem where the mating connector doesn’t engage / align properly. 🤦♂️
This might explain why the system indicates a no battery message. Take the battery out first to see what the voltage is. If it’s below 24 volts replace it. If it’s above 24 volts turn the UPS upside down so you’re looking at the battery opening.
Look at the battery cartridge and you will see the battery connector. Ensure it looks fine better yet take a picture and load it up for us to see. Insure it’s viewable on the APC Forums to see.
If the battery connector is fine take a flashlight and confirm the internal connector is also fine. 9X out of 10 you’ll find the internal connector bent / broken.
Assuming the battery isn’t dead (should be at least 24 VDC. Insert the battery cartridge while the housing is on its side (opening toward the sky) and slowly insert the battery.
You should feel a slight engagement of the battery connector to the internal one inside. Leave the unit in that position and power it up. If the battery shows up now this affirms the internal connector is damaged / misaligned.
Let me know what you see and observe. Keep in mind this assumes the battery is fine and measures at least 24 VDC! The battery should hold 24 VDC or above while outside the UPS for several weeks.
If the battery say after a day or more drops to below 24 VDC the battery is toast!
