well i found this unit, dont know how old,or if batt been replaced,if you unplug is it normal to do this, and when you push the test button it draws down batt, the light for the batt coms on,but it will show some bars on the charge side,so not sure if this test mode is normal....

Hello,
If you pull the plug and the UPS transfers successfully to battery, then powers down (After any given period of time), it means that the UPS is functioning properly, however, definitely points to the battery needing to be replaced. There should be a white barcoded sticker on the rear of the UPS that should give you a model and serial number combination.

I don't need them unless you want to know how old the UPS is and what the battery replacement is.

The first two numbers of the serial number tells you the year of manufacturer. For the tower type, the batteries you need are a pair of 12v 17 to 18Ah (depending on brand, the capacity can be 17-19Ah) or one APC-MGE RBC7 or its generic equivalent battery pack. The OEM APC pack cost close to $200 delivered directly from APC.
