I need to know if i can hook this unit from the data port to the network verses the data port to usb. of pc.

Hi Mark,
That would not work because it is not a true network port. The RJ-45 to USB cable that comes with the UPS is the only way to communicate with it. If you would like to have a network enabled UPS I would suggest a Smart-UPS with a Network Management Card (NMC). Most likely the SUA1500 and a AP9630.
