1. Brand new. Run diagostic test => crashes desktop PC (~300 watt max power) and fries CMOS memory & battery
2. Install new battery in unit, everything good until...
3. Power outage: UPS dies, hard system crash.
4. Try to start desktop system on battery - overload indicator (monitor+cpu only).
5. Power restored - battery indicator shows 20% battery, recharging, windows repairing after crash
This thing sucks. WTF? Stats say it should very easily handle my PC power requirements but failed when needed. FIrst power failure here in 5 years. What's the point of a UPS if it folds as soon as the power does? How did it go from 100% charge (according to Windows) last night to <20% charge after power failure resolved. It has a <1yo battery.
This thing is going in the trash tomorrow.

Hi Bruce,
You have mentioned that the battery is less than a year old, how about the UPS itself any idea how old it is? If you don't, can you please post the exact model and the first six characters of its serial number. Also, are the batteries new and was it an APC battery?
When you have lost power, what happened to the UPS? Did it showed any light indicator or emitted a beep pattern? Did it immediately turned itself off? Aside from the overload indicator, did you hear a constant/squealing tone coming from the unit? If yes, how did you manage to make it stop?
Can we try this, with nothing connected on the unit turn it on and let me know what would happen. Next put a load on the UPS and while it is on press and hold the test button and once the Online started flashing release the button.

APC UPSes are purely trashes right now...My brand new CS 650 is doing crazy sound... I wonder what is happening to their quality control! Not worth the money you spend on an expensive unit.
