XS1500 Battery Dead on Arrival

I just bought an XS 1500 UPS today. I read the instructions, pulled out and flipped the battery, plugged everything in, and then turned it on. Right away I am getting a Replace Battery indicator light and a chirping noise. When I try to run the Self Test, the device emits a static-like noise similar to an air ionizer and then give me the Replace Battery indicator light. Sometimes when I turn it on it won't give me the Replace Battery light until I test it.

My question is do I have a lemon battery or is there something I'm doing wrong? Could it not be plugged into the device properly or perhaps do I just need to wait for it to charge first?

Please Help,

Ben

You were 100% right. I let the thing charge for 2 days, tested it again, and it passed this time. It was probably just sitting in Staples too long. Thank you for saving me having to carry that battery to the post office.

These units sit on shelves for a little bit so the batteries can become discharged sometimes. You'll want to leave the battery connected with either the UPS on or off (doesn't matter) and let it charge at least 24 hours and you can try another self test. If it does not charge properly in 24 or even 48 hours and pass a self test, ideally with some load on it for accurate results, then if no change, tech support can provide a new battery to you with proof of purchase.

If you leave the UPS on and plug things into it, just know it won't hurt but you just may not get any battery runtime and it will disrupt the charging process if there is an outage. Alternatively, if you plug the UPS in and leave it off, the battery can also charge.
