Which to buy?

Three CPU's, 5 monitors, VPN, Wireless, modem, couple other peripherals. What power backup(s) should I get for my home business, to allow me to run for at least 4 hours? I already have one older APC 1000.....

Are you looking for one centralized solution or three individual setups?

Probably 2 backup units, to supply each 'half' separately.

For starters, for 4 hours of runtime, if you're not getting a backupgenerator, you're looking at at LEAST a Smart-UPS XL for extended runtime. Next question is how large?

Well, that depends. Are you looking to do graceful unattended shutdown on all three machines as well?

The way I look at it now, you would need an SUA750XL and an SUA1000XL (the 1000 for the 2 pc, 1 UPS setup), plus battery packs for both. If you're doing shutdown, you need an AP9607 interface expander for the second PC's graceful shutdown.

Do you need 4 hours to keep working, or to stay on while unattended? If you can intervene after a few minutes, I'd get a Honda EU2000i generator.
Plug in the monitors + 1 PC into your existing UPS, then the other two PCs + the periphs into a new UPS (SU1400NET or SU1000NET) and feed them off a same power strip.

Set the UPS to gracefully shut down if you can't intervene, but if you want to keep working, simply start the generator outside, then you have enough time to plug the UPS to it before battery runs out. Note that you can't use any 'ol generator as most generators have power output that's too dirty and the UPS will complain and not accept its power.
