Which is the better choice, Back-UPSPro1300 or Smart UPS SC-620?

First, this is my first post here, I did try to do the research, but I was hoping to hear from some of the experts for my specific situation. Thanks for your help.

I want to protect a midpriced LCD TV, and a relatively inexpensive DVD player. The total replacement cost is about $850, so I don't want to spend $400 to protect it.

I've narrowed the choices down to the two UPSes. Both are about the same price, due to the TradeUPS program for the 1300. Both are stepped approximations to a sine wave when on battery. The difference in run time is not important.

The SmartUPS offers the following advantages: 412 Joules vs. 354 Joules Surge Energy Rating, and 0.3% IEEE surge let through vs. 5% IEEE surge let through.

However, the SmartUPS lacks the coaxial cable protection that the 1300 has . So I would have to buy a separate P8VT3 surge protector. Now, that surge protector also will protect to 2770 Joules, much more than either UPS. However, it is common to have low voltage here, which I'm not sure how much damage that does vs. over voltage. What I would really like to do is plug either chosen UPS into the surge protector, but it seems that is frowned upon. One expert did explain it so I could partially understand, that when the surge protector is zapped, the UPS then is not properly connected to the grounding, if I remember correctly.

So, with the situation described, what is the better choice? Or is it six of one and half a dozen for the other?
