Which is "Better"?

I have the option of either a SMX1000 or SMT1000, I noticed the SMX runs 4 12v cells in series generating 48v while the SMT runs 4 12 v cells generating 24v.

Is one UPS regarded as "Better" than the other. which battery configuration lasts the longest ?

At a high level the SMX Series models provide one key thing that the SMT Series does not: External Battery Stacking

As such this allows you at anytime to increase your operational runtime simply by adding more external battery packs.

Next, the SMX Series units provide an EPO input. The Emergency Power Off allows a person, system, whatever to rapidly turn off the entire unit with a simple dry contact switch / connection.

The SMT Series units do not offer this feature which is a requirement for many industries / insurance compliance.

Otherwise both units are very similar in size and the core features are the same. Both offer USB / serial, NMC slot, and Smart Connect.

As it relates to 24 vs 48 VDC battery voltage technically speaking in other industries a higher voltage allows smaller wires to be used and transmit power over longer distances with less voltage drop.

Neither of the above are factors given the size, location, and installation placement. The SMX uses plastic battery cartridges vs the SMT comes in a metal case for your consideration which translates to overall weight if that’s a factor for your installation.

The only other consideration is how many controllable output banks are present. This may be important to you if load shedding, cycling, scheduling is important.

Thanks, Great answer, I also noticed the SMT has passive cooling against the SMX active fan cooling.

I will go with the SMT as enough capacity without needing  additional battery packs.

Both units incorporate an internal fan. Neither fans are very loud and run only when on battery power only. 👍
