Where do I plug in my various devices in the rear of the H10 or H15?

The manual states that there are 4 distinct outlet categories: digital, video, analog, and high current. I have a few questions about several pieces of gear.

First off is my Plasma TV. I would think to plug this into the Video filter but there is also a monitor plug that's under the Digital category. What's the different between a monitor and a TV since you can use a TV for either use?

Next my PS3. The manual makes no mention of where to plug this into. I would assume to plug it into the digital category but don't know if it would belong in the High Current category.

Next my receiver. It's a Onkyo home theater receiver that receives various inputs, has outputs, and has the built in amp like most other receivers. The manual says to plug Preamp/Receivers into Analog section but to plug in Amplifiers into the high current section. So where the heck do I plug in an ordinary receiver?

The manual should really be more clear on all of this considering it tells you to be careful and try to plug things in to where they belong.

Thanks in advance for anyone that has any advice or ideas about this!!

Thank you very much for the info. I was actually looking at an APC strip that does just that and it was cheap enough solely for this purpose. Looks like my problems are all resolved now.

I would use the digital outlets for both your Plasma TV (depending on size...if it's larger than 40" I would recommend the high current outlet) and PS3, since these will provide the filtering designed for sensitive digital devices. The PS3, while practically a mid-"ish" to high end PC, is not considered a device with high inrush current or exceptionally high overall draw.

The *video* outlet is designed for old-style tube televisions and less sensitive accessories.

An ordinary receiver can be plugged into the *analog* outlet. Typically an "amp" that you would put into the high current outlets is more along the lines of a dedicated amp. device.

For the receiver, I'm using, for now, only 1 digital optical input directly from my PS3. Would this make it a "digital" device now? Would I not plug it into a "digital" outlet rather than an "analog" outlet? I'm not sure what makes a receiver digital or analog.

The plasma is a 50" so from what you said it should be a high current device. I'm surprised the manual stresses several times to put the right devices into the right spots but then leaves out any examples and then makes everyone either guess or do research like I am to figure out how to plug these in.

Thanks again for the help!

3 more questions in a few parts:

1. Why doesn't the H10 and H15 have any switched outlets? My new receiver doesn't have any of these outlets and with this power conditioner not having any I no longer can turn on my bias lighting automatically.

2. Can I plug a switched power strip here into the Monitor outlet on the H10 then plug ONLY my TV and bias lighting into the power strip? I want my lighting to turn on and off when the TV does and this looks like my only option. But I really don't want to not plug my TV into the H10

3. Is the Pioneer Elite SC-05 here considered a digital or analog AV receiver? Should I plug it into a digital outlet, an analog outlet, or a "high current" amp outlet?

Thanks a ton!

Sorry for the delay in response, had a tradeshow to attend.

1) It's part of the design of the H series. We just don't offer it on those units since it's reserved for the highest end AV solutions, such as the S Series.

2) If you need individual outlet control this may be your only way of obtaining such functionality. Keep in mind that APC does not support daisy chaining unless you are using an APC surge strip or PDU.

3) Based on the tech specs at Pioneer's website, it looks like this receiver supports (as many high quality receivers do) multiple connectivity/source types, both digital and non-digital. I would say that if you are primarily using analog ins/outs w/ the receiver, then use the analog outlets. If digital, then the digital outlets. If you have an even mix, I would still recommend using the digital outlets.
