I bought a new unit BX1400U-GR one week ago (23th November), to protect a PC installed in a bedroom. Since the moment I turn on the unit, it had a very strong smell that made me to unplug it from the electric network and turn off again because it was very difficult to breathe this air.
I left it all the last week in another room with more ventilation where nobody has to sleep, because I thought that It could be the protective resins of the circuits electrics and the smell would go with some time with the unit turned on. But today there is still a strong smell...
I'm very worried because i don't know if it could be a dangerous emissions of toxic gases from the battery or another type of dangerous toxic chemical product used during the manufacture of the unit. It is common that new electronic products smell a bit, but not so strong like this...
Could anyone help me about this problem?. Thanks.

the same for the BX950UI I bought (and returned) a few months ago
after some googling I found that this is a VERY common issue of last black cases:
maybe a bad quality plastic, who knows?
anyway, bye bye APC: there are many other UPS in the market that don't stink

Hi Ezequiel,
I have heard of some customers smelling a strong "plastic" smell from the unit when first removed from the packaging. This will often dissipate over a short period of time. If the smell continues beyond a reasonable amount if time, I would recommend reaching out to your local SE support locations for possible warranty replacement.

Finally, i've had to return the unit to the store because after almost a month the smell was incredibly strong.
