I have a modem that has the transformer built-in to the power cord at the plug (male) end. My question is: can I connect a short (12") extension cord (3-prong) to the large modem plug and then plug the extension cord's male end into the back-side of the 700?

Hi Rolf ,
there should be no problem, you have to make sure not to invest any of the cables, and make sure that the transformer has the same voltage as the ups,
