I am a new user, I just bought my backup unit yesterday. I have an ES model, a 550G. My PC is running Windows XP.
My question regards leaving the unit ON, or turning it OFF. When I am not using my PC, I turn it off, so it is not running 24 hours a day. Is there a reason to ever turn the backup unit OFF? Can I leave it ON, all the time?
Bill

Hello,
Generally, you'd want to leave the unit on all the time. There is no harm in doing so. When you turn it on, the UPS will do a self test, thus turning it on each day will cause it do a self test daily (rather than every two weeks which is set by default when you leave it on) potentially causing the battery to die a little bit prematurely because of the bit of extra usage.
Essentially, I see no benefit to turning it off every time versus leaving it on all the time. If you are worried about the power going out in the middle of the night for instance, while you arent using your computer, causing the on battery alarm to sound, you could always disable it during night time hours.
