My system ran with no issues for 2yrs until last week when I purchased an APC ES 750
I went online and installed the lastest version of Powerchute ........... I still kept getting "unable to communicate" . I uninstalled Powerchute.
Then I started to lose power to the keyboard and mouse. I unplugged the apc usb from the pc. Still losing power.
I did a SYSTEM RESTORE prior to the APC ............ still losing power.
I am running Vista....... system still plugged into the apc
As I said, my system was stable before buying this headache

once you click on a value on the left hand side of the tree, DisplayName would be a value on the right hand side.

i am not sure how installing powerchute would cause this issue..
does this happen regularly? if so, how often? does it only happen when coming out of standby/hibernate?
are you using a USB hub?

Ever since I installed Powerchute ....... ran stable for 2 yrs until I installed the crap
Been doing it at least twice a day.
I unplugged the pc from the APC and into a surge protector.
Lost USB power again but only to the keyboard. Without shutting down I plugged keyboard into different port and had power.... been stable for 2 days
I don't use a hub, sleep or hybernate
The funny thing is, 2yrs ago, a friend got a new Dell .... had the same issue ...... he and Dell thought it was a pc issue so Dell replaced the pc ..... he did not install powerchute in the replacement pc ......... no issues
Mine is not a Dell ....... but as I said, ran stable until install this crap

how do you know your friend's PC wasnt at fault. Dell replacing the PC did not prove either way that the UPS was at fault. the UPS only uses USB drivers already on the XP/Vista system. the software does not edit anything dealing with USB since the drivers are built into windows.
i could understand if the Vista/XP drivers used by Windows conflict or cause a problem with the keyboard or something but those drivers are always there.
and i am sure if this happened to more than one person and was very common, we would know about it.
are you sure this isnt following a particular USB port or section of USB ports. have you tried plugging anything else into it, besides the keyboard and mouse to see if it loses power after a couple days.
what type of keyboard and mouse is this? is it by chance a wireless RF receiver? or is it a wired connection?

Maybe you miss what I said .............. MY SYSTEM RAN STABLE FOR 2 YEARS UNTIL I INSTALLED POWERCHUTE.
Let see...... what did I add recently to my system POWERCHUTE
If your system has been stable until you add something........rule number 1 look at the last thing you added
it a hardwired logitech mouse, hardwired Saitek keyboard

yes i did see that. with all of my experience i have never seen anything like this so forgive me. i do not see how the two are related and how powerchute could affect the power on the USB ports. i am not saying i couldn't be wrong though..
you can try making sure that powerchute is completely removed via [this thread|http://forums.apc.com/spaces/15/universal-transfer-switch/forums/general/5086/warranty-coverage-help...] if you feel its the cause of the problem but i personally do not. i am not sure what else to check except making sure powerchute is completely removed.
maybe if someone else wants to chime in..
