Which series of UPS report load percent/watts while on line power? I think all Smart-UPS and Back-UPS Pro do report, at least some Back-UPS RS do also and Back-UPS ES do not. Please confirm and also what about CS, LS, VS, XS and Office?
Thanks,

OK, I found the following line in the PCPELog.txt, so the PowerChute developers must have a list of which UPS are considered "Advanced" and therefore there load value changes while on line power
"6/12/2011 7:38:14 AM :: HostApplication :: Start :: Information Message - Detected UPS type and the UPS connected is NOT an Advanced UPS. Data service will not poll for load changes."

well what i do know is back UPS ES, beginning with BE, is the lowest end UPS and RS, the highest end models, beginning with with BR are top end. thus, some features are supported and some not. another thing that BE models dont support is the run self test option that you see on the top left under Monitor System.
but, it is unorganized because I think something like the BE750G allows you to run a self test.

Just to clarify, you are saying all models of all series except the ES should report load percent/watts while on line power (not battery)? Including discontinued models?

i am personally not aware of any APC UPS model that does not provide UPS load percentage while online AND on battery. the only one I am not 100% sure on is Back UPS office since it was before my time and I don't have one to look at. as far as I know, everything can detect and measure load no matter if it is running online or on battery.

I have an older Back-UPS 725 ES and it definitely does not measure load percent when it is on line power. The load percent that it responds with when on line power is the last value it measured the last time it was on battery power. It also uses this value to calculate how long that battery power will last if you loose power. So if you add or subtract load while on line power the estimated battery run time does not adjust.

Manufacture date 9/14/2004
Here is a quote from PCPE help file, page "Viewing basic power Information".
"Energy: This field display cycles between three different values, all relating to your energy usage for battery backup attachments. (For additional information, see Assessing your energy usage). *This information is not available for all battery backups*."
Here is a quote from the APCUPSD manual
[http://www.apcupsd.org/manual/manual.html]
"For the various smaller, cheaper APC USB UPSes, such as the CS, ES, ..., you will get much of the information that is presented above, but not all of it. For example, you will not get MAXLINEV, MINLINEV, LINEFREQ, ... and in particular, the LOADPCT will be zero when you are running on mains. LOADPCT will display when the UPS is on batteries. You must remember that the non-SmartUPSes are much simpler (and less expensive) and therefore produce less information."

ok, sorry for the delay. i asked the tech support lead for Back UPS here at APC. he told me that all Back UPS are the same and should report data while online and on battery. granted, the data you receive while online is generally less accurate versus while on battery, but what I said is generally true. there should always be something reading in load percentage according to what we at APC think.
is this perhaps an apcupsd limitation?

The BackUPS ES will send a loading value when it is on line-power but it does not change with actual load because it is from when the UPS was last on batteries. I checked another BackUPS ES and it is doing the same thing. It is Serial number JB0432016***. It is not an apcupsd issue. See the attached screen shots. Notice the BackUPS RS shows watts but the BackUP ES does not. This is because PCPE knows that the load percent/watt value is not correct from a ES when it is on line power
