UPS runs on battery mode because building wiring fault light is on?
I just bought an APC XS1300 a few days ago, however, whenever I plug it to any of my wall outlet, the building wiring fault indicator is on, and when I turn on the APC, it runs on battery directly instead of running on the utility power. Is that because of the builidng wiring fault? Any solutions?

Sammak,
You don't want to go into your UPS for any reason, as it'll void the warranty and it'll be dangerous if you aren't careful.
APC sells 50hz units. You would want to get the appropriate model.

The Building Wiring Fault indicates one of three things:
Loose or Missing Ground
Overloaded Neutral
Reversed Polarity
However, the UPS should stay online even though the LED is lit.
You might want to follow the steps in the manual to manually adjust the sensitivity to Low to see if it resolves that problem.
Do you have any other APC devices in the residence? Do you have anywhere else you can plug this UPS into?

My situation is kinda unique, my main power supply is 220V and 50hz, and I step that down to 110V using a 1000watt transformer, and my APC is plugged to the transformer, however, whenever I turn on the APC, it runs on the battery, and the LED indicator tells me that the input voltage is 109-112V and the frequency is 57hz, so the tranformer is working, but for some reasons the APC is running on battery mode. I have tried to manually adjust the sensitivity to low, but the problem still exists.

Did you install the software and see what the transfer points are currently set to?
The UPS should have AVR Boost to suffice for the 109-112VAC range.

You should be careful while pluging anything that has surge protection buitl-in on a step down transformer. If you reverse the power transformer polarity or the wiring polarity inside the wall outlet (Phase-Neutral) does not follow the code the step-down transformer outlet would show 220V between neutral and ground. If the MOVs inside the unit is dimensioned for 110-120V, it would blow up instantly if the ground is missing. If the ground is available, the MOVs would be in conducting state for good between neutral and ground which is a code violation in many countries. Why this happen? Read about it here:
http://www.gson.org/stepdown/
I don't know if your problem could be related to this, but check with a multimeter or a voltmeter the voltages between Phase-Neutral and neutral-ground. Between neutral ground it would be ideally at 0 volt, if it is 220V, things are very wrong there.

also, beware that the UPS will go to battery if the frequency is out of range. acceptable frequency for this particular UPS is 60 Hz +/- 3 Hz..if its hovering around 56-57 that would cause it to go to battery.

i have the same problem
but i checked the frequency is 50hz not 60hz
so is there any solution to fix it by changing some components in the main ups board to be able to work in 50hz
i can do it myselfy or throught your local dealer in egypt.
