UPS has constant beep with nothing plugged in.

I purchased a BN900M a couple days ago.  All was well, even tested it a couple times by unplugging it to simulate a power outage.  All was well.

I just have a laptop, an LED monitor, a network switch and two external hard drives plugged into the battery backup outlets.  Then I have a printer and cell phone charger plugged into the surge protected outlets.  Today when i printed, all went kaput.  Everything shut off except the printer and there was a constant beep.  Cycling the power on the UPS, the constant beep would return.  I unplugged everything from the device, still a audible click, then a constant beep when you turn it on.  I tried unplugging the device, disconnecting the batter, holding the power button to purge any remaining electricity, same thing.  What happened?  Why did something connected to the surge (bypass) outlets cause this to fail?  This device is brand new and was working well.

Hi,

Sounds like the printer overloaded the UPS and caused an internal fault. Since the UPS is new you should contact local support. They will require you to be with the unit and will assist with troubleshooting. If the unit is deemed defective it will be replaced.

Hi Bill,  Thank you for your response.  I will do as you recommended.

However, I can't help but wonder how this could happen.  Why are the surge protected only outlets in any way linked to (or shielded from) the battery backup outlets?  The circuit breaker button on the device didn't even pop.  When the incident occurred, only the backup outlets powered off, but the printer kept running fine and ultimately printed the document.  In the documentation for the device, it specifically states the surge only outlets are meant for peripherals like "printers."   I sincerely hope this is a fluke and just a case of bad luck.  I will report back what happens.  Thanks again.
