I've tried an ES350 and a 280. Both test out OK when I connect a fan or something and then pull the mains plug. But in (too frequent) transient or longer power outages, both of them shut down the computer.
Nothing fancy - no data connection to PC, and only a PC, modem and screen on backup power. I just want a few minutes' power to allow a soft shutdown.
Is there a common reason why both UPSs would fail like this? I had problem with all sorts of gear until the power company found an intermittently disconnecting ground connection on a pole transformer. But that's long since fixed. Could transients or something have slowed the switching circuit?
Thanks - appreciate any ideas before buying yet another UPS.

Thanks; we all do stuff like that, but I've been careful to use the backed-up sockets. Even tested them with an electric fan. But on both UPSs, the PC shuts down with even a minor line hiccup.
Will contact customer service when I get a minute; hope they aren't an hour-on-hold company. Can someone here possibly point me to whatever test checklist they would use?
Thanks-
Ct
