I have a strange problem that started up about 2 weeks ago.. I have 5 UPS's (different models)
and late night they start beeping ,the green light blinks & sometimes goes out about every 30-60
seconds.. Sometimes the equipment connected loses power for a moment when it happens.
This only happens after midnight until 7-8am. Does not happen at the same time every
night & there have been nights it did not happen at all.. Never have a problem during the day..
Could this be a problem with the power company (they are in the process of upgrading a local
power station) or is this a problem where I need a electrican?? It only happens to the UPS's.
If they were not beeping I would not know there was a problem because nothing else is affected,
only equipment that is connected to them. No lights blink, nothing else happens..
Any idea what is causing this??

The power company was out today checking my service.. They installed some kind of monitor that will
record what's happening with my power for the next few days.. The tech did tell me that the monitor was
showing a higher voltage than normal before he closed it up.. He was going to check out a couple of
things after he left.. Said they may have to replace the transformer where I'm connected to the grid.
Hopefully this will let them figure out what has been casuing my problem.

As a followup, ther power company was back out today to remove the monitor off my meter.. I had not had a problem
since they had installed it,almost 2 weeks ago.. The tech told me he had found the problem after he left & had fixed it.
They had installed a new pc of equipment a a sub station & the voltage was to high.. He didn't need to check the monitor.
Hopefully it will not happen again but if it does at least I know what's causing it.. Thanks for the help..

Hi Rick,
What kind of UPS's are we talking about here? Are they Back-UPS or Smart-UPS or could be a much more higher-end UPS. From your description, the UPS could be transferring to battery power due to some disturbances that it was able to detect during those instances. These power disturbances could either be one of the following: undervoltage, overvoltage, blackout, surge or total harmonic distortion.
To protect your load from the harmful effects, it switches to battery power. If you also have software or network management card on these UPS's we should be able to gather the log files that would help us know more about the issue.
