We had a momentary power outage yesterday. My APC UPS started buzzing continuously and wont stop. I replugged it in, pressed the on/off and circuit breaker buttons but nothing worked. It is an old UPS. I am willing to accept that its time has come. But how do I stop the incessant buzzing?

Hi Joe,
The 'buzzing' you've described is typically a symptom of vibration found within and around the unit's internal transformer. Often times, the sounds emitted from a transformer are well outside the range of normal human hearing. In some cases small children's sensitive hearing may observe the buzzing, where an adult may not. In the situation you've described, I believe the insulating material which is used to isolate the transformer's magnetic fields, has begun to break-down. There are many variables which could lead to a component failure within the UPS, however I believe this failure is likely due to age.

Hi,
What is the model UPS? Have you unplugged it and removed the battery / batteries?
